YELLOWSTONE was a famous American series created by Taylor Sheridan. The series, sharing Kevin Costner, follows the conflicts and drama surrounding the Dutton Family, who own the largest contiguous Ranch in the United States, located adjacent to Yellowstone National Park.
Dutton’s family was one of the most fictional families in America. Yellowstone introduced in June 2018 and follows the family of John Dutton III in modern-day Montana.
Paramount Network created two prequel series after its explosive success.

First Generation
James Dutton, Margret Dutton
Patriarch James Dutton was a farmer by profession. He served in the Confederate army during the battle of Antietam and was later held as a prisoner of war; James Dutton chose to strike for a new life with his family in 1883.
James’ wife’s name was Margret, and she was a nurse by profession in the Confederate Army. Through her commitment and enthusiastic endeavors, Margaret Dutton has improved the existence of her better half as well as made a permanent imprint on the tradition of the Dutton family. The couple have three children:

- John
- Spencer
James Dutton decided to go to the West on a wagon train with his family. With his sister Claire and daughter, Mary Abel to start a new life. Towards the end of the limited series, he survives the rigorous winter and settles on the future Yellowstone Dutton Ranch.
Jacob Dutton
Jacob Dutton’s story unfolds in the prequel series “1923,” a generation before the events of “Yellowstone.” A rancher grappling with a brutal drought, Jacob finds himself embroiled in a conflict with Banner Creighton over dwindling resources. Tragedy strikes when John Dutton I, his nephew, is killed in a shootout. Despite being wounded himself, Jacob perseveres, taking on the role of Livestock Commissioner and laying the foundation for the Dutton family’s future as a ranching and political dynasty.
Second Generation
John Dutton Sr, Emma Dutton
John Dutton Sr. appears in flashbacks throughout the Yellowstone prequel series, 1883 and 1923. The eldest son of James and Margaret Dutton, he inherits the responsibility of helping his uncle Jacob build and defend the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch alongside his wife Emma appeared in 1923 and son Jack. Tragedy strikes when John Sr. is murdered by a rival family, the Banner Creightons, leaving his legacy and the future of the ranch in the hands of subsequent generations.
After the death of her husband, John Dutton Sr., Emma Dutton couldn’t bear this shock because she loved him dearly. And she committed suicide herself.
Elsa Dutton, Sam
James and Margaret’s elder daughter was Elsa Dutton. Elsa Dutton was a passionate, stubborn, and skilled horseback rider and a cowgirl. When she was 17 years old, she set out on a wagon train with her family because she was in search of a new start in the West. On the journey, she found a cowboy named Ennis. Elsa Dutton plans to marry Ennis, but the bandits kill him.
After this tragedy, she becomes entangled with Sam, a Comanche warrior who saves her life on the trail in 1883. Even though she and Sam recognized their marriage, he felt he couldn’t abandon his lands and people, and Elsa assented to come back to him after her family had concluded their journey and found a homestead.
After that, Elsa was shot by an arrow during an attack on the wagon train. And suddenly, she died of her wounds. In honor of Elsa, James settled their remaining family on the spot in Montana, where Elsa took her last breath.
Spencer Dutton
Spencer Dutton was the second son of James Dutton and Margret Dutton. He was born sometime after his family settled in Montana. He also served in World War I, and he remained haunted by his experiences on the battlefield like his father; after returning to the family’s Ranch after World War I, Spencer became a big game hunter in Africa.
Before deciding to return to America, he met his wife, Alexandra. Spencer was also a candidate for being the grandfather of Yellowstone’s John Dutton. However, a person named Brandon Sklenar, who plays the character, was still in the dark about whether that would turn out to be the case.
Third Generation
Jack Dutton
Jack Dutton was the son of Emma Dutton and John Dutton Sr. He works the land of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch with his father, John Dutton Sr., and his great-uncle Jacob Dutton. Later he went on to marry Elizabeth. She was the well-mannered daughter of another local rancher. At the moment, Jack remains one of the prime candidates to be the father of Yellowstone’s John Dutton.
Fourth Generation
John Dutton II
John Dutton II is referenced in 1923 and shows up in a flashback episode of Yellowstone. Depicted by Dabney Coleman, John II is the dad of John III and granddad to Lee, Jamie, Beth, and Kayce. Despite the fact that his folks’ personalities have not yet been affirmed, he is either the child of Spencer and Alexandra or Jack and Elizabeth.
Fifth Generation
John Dutton III

Chance Dutton
Chance Dutton is a bit of an enigma in the Yellowstone universe. While his grave appears on the Dutton ranch, indicating he’s a deceased member of the family, the show hasn’t revealed anything about him. There’s no mention of him in flashbacks or by any living characters. His existence and connection to John Dutton and the rest of the family remain a complete mystery, hinting at a potential storyline to be explored in future seasons or prequel shows.
Sixth Generation
Lee Dutton
Lee Dutton was the eldest child of John Dutton III and Evelyn Dutton. He was always meant to carry on the Dutton ranch’s legacy. But he died in the first season of Yellowstone after a battle over stolen cattle
Beth Dutton
Beth has a successful career in banking in Salt Lake City, and she moves back to the Dutton ranch to help her family’s legacy. The main little girl of John Dutton, Beth has gained notoriety for being constant and vicious — both in business and her own life.
In any case, Beth has a mysterious, milder side, one that is just uncovered in her relentless devotion to her dad and her long-term love for her significant other, Tear.
Beth is the family’s corporate shark, clashing with business intrigues that compromise the Dutton land. However, she feels no unique association with the farm. She has specific disdain for Jamie and has promised to destroy any similarity to joy in his life.
Rip Wheeler
Rip came to Yellowstone Dutton Ranch as a wayward teenager. On the way, after killing the man who had killed his family, he was taken under John’s wing and became dedicated to him. The only competition with John John for Rip’s loyalty is his devotion to Beth.
Kayce Dutton
Kayce appears in Yellowstone. Kayce married Monica Dutton, through whom he had a son, Tate. Kayce is the eidest of his siblings and a former Navy SEAL.
Kayce Dutton starts his career as a livestock agent in the Montana Livestock Association. But after some time, he decided to leave his position to support the Ranch with his father.
Monica Dutton
Monica is never one to withdraw from her thought process, which is correct, regardless of whether it implies contradicting some standard norms. Raised on the Messed up Rock Reservation, Monica has filled in as an educator both on the booking and at the state college.
She is frequently skeptical of the Dutton family, whom she sees as possibly having a risky impact on her and Kayce’s child, Tate. In season five of the show, she lost her unborn son in a car accident on the way to the hospital to give birth.
Jamie Dutton
The black sheep of the Dutton family, Jamie battles with both disdain and regard for his dad, John. Christina
Christina appears in Yellowstone and is depicted by Katherine Cunningham. She was Jamie Dutton’s mission supervisor during his run for Montana’s head legal officer in season 2. She and Jamie were beforehand seeing someone; they had a child, likewise named Jamie.
Seventh Generation
Tate Dutton
The son of Keyce Dutton and Monica Dutton was Tate. He has less hesitation about his Dutton family than his parents do. He experienced tragedy due to his connection with his family. Once, he was kidnapped because of them. He gets along well with his grandfather, John, who views him as the future of the Ranch.
Jamie Dutton Jr
In season 4, Christina shocks Jamie with her pregnancy in the wake of cutting off their friendship. He is supposed to be named after his dad. However, it’s hazy, assuming he will be called James or Jamie.
